The Swedish pianist  and composer Mats Skimmelå has studied music at Geijersskolan and Liljeholmens folkhögskola and completed his musical studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, he graduated in 1994 with the major Professional Music.
 
After completing his studies he moved to Stockholm 1995, where he worked as a freelance musician. Mats have been a part of a variety of different musical projects in Stockholm. In February 2017 he moved to Mariestad. 

Between 2009-2017, he played with the Stockholm based jazz group Jam Station, as a pianist and composer.

Currently Mats is playing with the singer Emma Sjögren, - Two of a Kind and with the saxophone player Johan Pihlström - Skimmelå/Pihlström Duo and Jazz Power Group
